Steps for Tying Fishing Line to a Spinning Reel Spool

  • Step 1: Prepare the spinning reel and main fishing line.
  • Step 2: Fold the line back on itself to create a loop.
  • Step 3: Fold the tag end back over itself to form a second loop.
  • Step 4: Pass the tag end up through the loop, wrapping around both standing lines 3 to 4 times.
  • Step 5: Pull both ends evenly with both hands to tighten the knot.
  • Step 6: Trim the tag end with scissors to create a secure slip loop.
  • Step 7: Open the bail wire of the spinning reel, then place the slip loop onto the spool. Note: Always open the bail wire before placing the slip loop onto the spool.
  • Step 8: Pull the line tight so the loop grips firmly onto the spool. Close the bail wire and turn the handle forward to begin spooling line. Note: Ensure the line passes through the bail wire to spool properly.
